The United Federal Assembly selects the president annually from the seven Federal Councillors. The Federal Council collectively performs head-of-state functions; this presidency is a one-year chairmanship, not a popular election of a separate head of state. Only the documented elected candidate’s vote count is entered. Other ballots, blanks, turnout and vote share remain null, so numerical coverage is partial. The scholarly table’s percentage of assembly membership is not reused as a percentage of valid ballots. Historical selections normally occurred in the preceding year; where the exact day is unverified only year precision is used, with January 1 a sorting anchor. For these early entries the historical source labels affiliation at the initial Federal Council election, not necessarily at the later presidential selection; the label’s scope is retained explicitly.
