The president is elected directly by an absolute majority of valid votes. If no candidate obtains more than half, the two leading candidates contest a separate runoff; each round has its own denominator.
Vote shares are calculated from 364,780 valid candidate votes. 378,548 ballots were cast; 13,768 ballots were outside the valid-vote denominator. Turnout is ballots cast divided by 446,256 registered voters.
Both candidates are recorded. Gusmão stood as an independent; the later CNRT party is not backdated to this election. No second round was required.
Colours are editorial identifiers. No numeric ideology scores or unsupported election-era ideology links have been assigned.
